Dojo pricing UK: the Fix plan, the custom tiers, and what changed

Dojo prices by card turnover, not one headline rate. Under £100,000 a year the published Fix plan is £39.99/month; above it, everything is a custom quote. Here is what each plan costs, the 2025 pricing change most comparison sites have missed, and the arithmetic for deciding whether a Dojo deal beats what you pay now.

Dojo fees at a glance

  • Fix plan (under £100k/year card turnover): £39.99/month, covering card turnover up to £3,999 a month, then a 1% flat rate above £4,000 a month. Amex and the platform fee included; 12-month price-locked plan
  • Flex plan: custom negotiated rates tailored to your turnover, platform fee £10 a month per location, on a 30-day rolling or 12-month price-locked plan
  • Pro plan (£1m+/year): fully bespoke deal. On the custom plans we have seen quotes as low as 0.29%
  • Hardware: from £179 bought upfront, or from £15/month (pay-monthly only at £100k+ turnover); £0 arranged through MerchantSwitch. Tap to Pay on iPhone needs no hardware
  • Setup fee: £0. Trial: 30-day no-commitment trial. Leaving early: inside a 12-month price-locked term you pay the remaining costs of the contract; after it, one month's notice

Rates checked: 27 August 2026; Dojo figures from dojo.tech's pricing page content, corrected August 2026 (see corrections log). MerchantSwitch is an independent comparison site; you can switch to Dojo through MerchantSwitch, and Dojo pays us a fee when a business we introduce completes a switch. Custom-plan rates are quoted per business, so always confirm with a current quote.

The three plans: Fix, Flex and Pro

For businesses taking under £100,000 a year on cards (roughly £8,300 a month), Dojo publishes the Fix plan: one flat £39.99/month charge that covers every card payment up to £3,999 a month of turnover, with a 1% flat rate on turnover above £4,000 a month. There are no percentage fees below the threshold, Amex costs nothing extra, and the platform fee is inside the monthly price. The consequence worth understanding: your effective rate depends entirely on your volume. At £4,000 a month, £39.99 is almost exactly 1%. At £2,000 a month it is 2%, which is why we tell low-volume businesses not to switch.

Above £100,000 a year, pricing goes custom. Flex is negotiable debit and credit rates tailored to your turnover, with a £10 a month per-location platform fee, on a 30-day rolling or 12-month price-locked plan. Pro, for £1m+ turnover, is fully bespoke. At these volumes the true cost of processing varies enough with card mix and transaction size that a negotiated rate can beat any published number: we have seen quotes as low as 0.29% for high-turnover businesses.

What changed in 2025 (and why other sites still say 1.2%)

Until early 2025, dojo.tech advertised an all-inclusive rate from 1.2%. Between April and May 2025 that disappeared and the current Fix, Flex and Pro plans took its place. Much of the comparison industry never caught up: as of 27 August 2026 you can find 2026-dated reviews quoting 1.2%, 1.4% plus 5p and a £24.95 minimum for the same product, sometimes on the same page.

We were among them: this site said "Dojo publishes 1.2%" until August 2026, and the correction is logged, dated and explained on our corrections page. The practical takeaway when you compare: check the date on any Dojo rate you read, and judge quotes against the plan structure above, not a percentage from 2024.

What drives a custom-plan quote

If you want to see the machinery underneath these levers, our guide to reading a merchant statement shows how to work out the effective rate you pay today, which is the number any Dojo quote has to beat.

Hardware: buy it, or get it free through us

Dojo publishes only "from" hardware prices: terminals from £179 bought upfront, or from £15/month on a 30-day rolling plan, with the exact price per device confirmed at quote. The catch for smaller businesses: the pay-monthly option is unavailable under £100,000 a year of card turnover, so a Fix-plan business buys the machine outright. The lineup is the Dojo Go, Dojo Pocket and Dojo Wired, plus Tap to Pay on iPhone, which needs no hardware at all. Arranged through MerchantSwitch, the terminal is free: £0 upfront and no monthly cost for the life of the contract, not an introductory period.

Said plainly, because a comparison site should say it plainly: the free-terminal arrangement is funded by the fee Dojo pays us on a completed switch, and it does not change the plan pricing you are quoted. A free terminal attached to a poor deal is a poor deal. Judge the quote on the plan cost first, and treat the terminal as the bonus. The mechanics are on the free Dojo card machine page.

Worked examples at £2,000, £5,000 and £20,000 a month

Fix-plan arithmetic: £39.99/month, plus 1% of anything over £4,000 a month. The arithmetic is shown so you can rerun it on your own numbers.

A stall taking £2,000 a month on cards: do not switch

The pay-as-you-go readers win by around £6.19 a month, free Dojo terminal or not. Below roughly £2,300 a month of card takings, stay on a no-contract reader.

A cafe taking £5,000 a month on cards

Here Fix wins clearly: £34.51 a month against SumUp and £37.51 against Square, roughly £450.12 a year. The one-off terminal purchase (from £179 direct, £0 through us) is the only other line.

A restaurant taking £20,000 a month on cards

At £20,000 a month this business turns over £240,000 a year on cards, well past the £100,000 Fix ceiling, so it gets a custom Flex quote and there is no published number to print. The benchmarks: a flat-rate reader at 1.75% costs £350.00 a month here. A custom quote at 1% would be £200, and at the 0.29% floor we have seen quoted, £58.00. Every 0.1% negotiated off is worth £20 a month at this volume, which is why the single most useful thing you can do is know your current effective rate before the call.

The pay-as-you-go crossover

The Fix plan's £39.99 floor sets the break-even points exactly: Fix beats SumUp (1.69% flat) above ~£2,370/month card turnover (Fix plan vs SumUp 1.69%) and Square (1.75% flat) above ~£2,290/month card turnover (Fix plan vs Square/Zettle 1.75%). Below those volumes the no-monthly-cost reader costs less, and the honest advice is to stay put. The full market picture is in our UK card machine rates table.

Dojo pricing FAQs

What are Dojo’s transaction fees?

It depends on your card turnover. For businesses taking under £100,000 a year on cards, Dojo publishes the Fix plan: £39.99 a month, which covers all card turnover up to £3,999 a month, with a 1% flat rate on transactions above £4,000 a month. Amex is included and the platform fee is part of the monthly price. Above £100,000 a year the rate is a custom quote on the Flex or Pro plans, and we have seen quotes as low as 0.29% for high-turnover businesses.

Does Dojo still charge 1.2%?

No. Until early 2025 Dojo advertised an all-inclusive rate from 1.2%, and many comparison sites still quote it. Between April and May 2025 the pricing page moved to the current Fix, Flex and Pro plans: a flat £39.99 a month under £100,000 a year (1% above £4,000 a month of turnover) and custom quotes above. If a site tells you Dojo is 1.2%, its information is over a year out of date. We corrected our own pages in August 2026 and logged it on our corrections page.

How much does the Dojo card machine cost?

Dojo publishes "from" prices: from £179 to buy a terminal upfront, or from £15 a month on a 30-day rolling plan. The monthly option is only available to businesses taking £100,000 or more a year on cards, so smaller businesses buy the machine outright. Tap to Pay on iPhone needs no hardware at all. Arranged through MerchantSwitch, the terminal comes with £0 upfront and no monthly cost for the life of your contract. Disclosure: Dojo pays us a fee on switches completed through MerchantSwitch, which is how the arrangement is funded. The free terminal does not change the plan pricing you are quoted.

Does Dojo charge setup or exit fees?

Setup is £0, and the first 30 days are a no-commitment trial: cancel inside them and you owe nothing more. After that, the Fix plan is a 12-month price-locked term, and Dojo’s support centre confirms that leaving inside a fixed term costs the remaining costs of the contract. Once out of the term you can leave with one month’s notice. On Flex you can choose a 30-day rolling plan instead, which avoids the lock entirely at the cost of a per-location £10 monthly platform fee.

Is Dojo cheaper than SumUp or Square?

Above roughly £2,300 to £2,400 a month of card takings, yes. The Fix plan is £39.99 flat until £4,000 a month, so at £5,000 a month it costs £49.99 against £84.50 at SumUp (1.69%) and £87.50 at Square (1.75%). Below the crossover the arithmetic flips: at £2,000 a month, £39.99 is an effective rate of 2%, and SumUp costs £33.80. If you take under about £2,300 a month on cards, a pay-as-you-go reader is cheaper and you should not switch to Dojo.

What is the lowest rate Dojo offers?

On the custom plans we have seen quotes as low as 0.29% for high-turnover businesses. Treat that as the floor we have observed, not a rate to expect: it goes to businesses with serious card volume and favourable card mix. On the Fix plan the effective rate depends on your volume: £39.99 a month is 1% at £4,000 a month, and approaches 1% from above as turnover grows towards the £100,000-a-year ceiling. If your turnover is above £100,000, say so up front; it is the single biggest lever on the quote.
